Skilled Nursing

When it comes to skilled nursing facilities, Allegan County Medical Care Community is not just a facility that offers professional medical care services alongside rehabilitation, as well as respect and dignity for our residents; it’s a place where your golden years can be your best years. Our goal is to make our place become your place. We don’t consider ourselves just a nursing home. We consider this your home. We are just here to help.

In fact, we offer a five-star experience, according to U.S. News & World Report. In its 2013 best nursing homes review, editors of the prestigious magazine reviewed the profiles of more than 15,000 facilities nationwide and ranked them by state using quarterly data. Only the best received a five-star rating, which amounts to only one nursing home in seven.

Nationally Ranked Skilled Nursing Home

In 2013, we also earned our second Excellence in Action Award for “superior commitment to customer service” from My InnerView, a product of the National Research Corporation. The first time we won the award was in 2008 when the largest skilled nursing facility database in the United States compared 2,759 other nursing homes through the nation and ranked the top 10 percent nationally for customer satisfaction.

Maybe we earned these distinctions by offering personalized and individual care to each and every resident. Or maybe we earned these distinctions by going out of our way to make nutritious, homemade lunches and snacks for our senior residents. Allegan County Medical Care Community also offers pet therapy – that may have also played a role. But, in the end, it’s not about awards. As one of the top ranked skilled nursing facilities Allegan County trusts, it’s about performing a basic duty to each and every resident. We would expect excellence for our loved ones, so we deliver the same to yours. It’s a simple philosophy, but it works. We want our residents to think of this community as their home.

We are among the best skilled nursing facilities Allegan County has to offer. Stop by and see for yourself. You’ll feel the love and warmth throughout our hallways. We sure do.

Occupational Therapy

What is Occupational Therapy?

Every day, adults have or develop health conditions that significantly affect their ability to manage their daily lives. With the help of occupational therapy, many of these individuals can achieve or regain a higher level of independence. When skill and strength cannot be developed or improved, occupational therapy offers creative solutions and alternatives for carrying out daily activities.

Occupational therapy is skilled treatment that helps individuals achieve independence in all facets of their lives. It gives people the “skills for the job of living” necessary for independent and satisfying lives. Services typical include:

  • Customized treatment programs to improve one’s ability to perform daily activities

  • Comprehensive home evaluations with adaptation recommendations

  • Adaptive equipment recommendations and usage training

  • Guidance to family members and caregivers

Treatment plans developed by our licensed occupational therapists are designed to reach an individual’s highest level of independence. Activities to improve self-care, homemaking tasks, medication management and kitchen skills are often incorporated to allow clients to return home.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is administered by physical therapists – health professionals who evaluate and treat people with a variety of dysfunction. These professionals assess joint motion, muscle strength and endurance, cardiac and pulmonary function development, functional ability sensation, and perception integrity of the skin, muscle tone, reflexes, and performance of functional activities.

Physical Therapy for Our Senior Residents & Clients

Physical therapy is for residents or clients with health problems resulting from injury or disease such as a stroke. The physical therapist assists in the recovery process to make them stronger, to relieve their pain, and to help them regain use of an affected limb.

The physical therapist at Allegan County Medical Care Community will teach you how to take care of yourself by showing you how to do physical therapy exercises, like how to use your body properly to gain strength and mobility while preventing a recurring injury.

At Allegan County Medical Care Community, our licensed physical therapists work closely with clients to help restore quality of life by designing individualized physical therapy treatment programs. These programs will increase muscle strength and range of motion, as well as improve functional mobility and relieve pain.

Speech Therapy

What Is Speech Therapy?

Speech therapy is performed by speech and language therapists. They are involved in the assessment of people with communication, memory and eating/swallowing problems.

Language is our most human characteristic. It is essential for learning, working, and enjoying family life and friendships. The speech therapist will establish with you and the team an effective way to get your needs and wants “communicated.” Speech therapy can also help people with swallowing disorders such as Dysphagia. Dysphagia is the inability to swallow correctly. The speech therapist will provide intervention and speech therapy techniques to improve your ability to swallow. This may include a diet/meal change until you have achieved the necessary techniques to swallow safely.

When your memory is affected due to your illness, your speech therapist will assist you with compensatory techniques to improve your independence through speech therapy.

Speech therapists help facilitate improvements in a resident’s communication and swallowing skills following a stroke or when aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, and dysphasia are present. Our main goal is to help improve a resident’s quality of life. Skilled nursing staff members at Allegan County Medical Care Community are always available to cater to each resident’s needs and medical concerns.
